Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED Valid Texas driver’s license Knowledge of equipment, materials, practices, and tools used in welding trade Ability to read blueprints and schematics, and written reference materials Ability to perform mathematical calculations Ability to diagnose and resolve problems Ability to use hand and power tools Three years’ experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience; clear driving record Summary of Responsibilities: Supervise and maintain welding by chemical, mechanical and electrical processes. Supervise the completion of welding projects throughout the district. Receive and complete work orders. Assist engineering personnel in testing and evaluating welding equipment, metals, and alloys. Evaluate data and conduct experiments to develop application of new equipment or improved techniques, procedures, or practices. Recommend adoption of new developments and applications to maintenance personnel and demonstrate practicability of recommendations. Select material and hardware and make time and material estimates. Hold, position and read tape or rods to assist in layout. Place and move blocking, braces, and jigs to hold parts. Hammer wedges and drift pins, turn turnbuckles, and pull pry bars to align parts. Grind or chip rough edges, surplus weld, or scale. Position and turn clamps and bolt butt straps or parts. Install fence and related materials. Transport materials, tools, and supplies. Detect needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment following established inspection procedures. Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clear. Study production schedules and estimate worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment. Interpret specifications and job orders to workers and assign duties. Establish or adjust work procedures to meet production schedules. Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product. Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency. Work irregular hours and respond to emergency calls as needed. Analyze and resolve work issues and assist workers in solving work problems. Initiate or suggest plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals. Maintain accurate records on materials used, labor, and production. Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials. Maintain accurate records on employees for payroll reporting. Interpret district policies to workers and enforce safety regulations. Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and immediately report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor. Participate in professional learning, training programs, staff meetings, and special events as assigned. Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects. Articulate the district’s mission and goals to the community and solicit community support. Supervise and evaluate the performance of the construction worker and laborer. Salary Schedule: Salary is based on district schedule, plus consideration of work-related experience. This is a 12 month, employee-at-will position.
